In class we have watched a movie called Temple Grandin. Temple Grandin is a girl who has autism who did great things. She could visualise things and see how they could work in her head and made some great inventions. I learnt a lot about autism and how there were certain things that could calm people with autism down and things that can affect people with autism and also about how they do things differently which was extremely helpful. As she said in the movie she was "different not less" We then made a word art with words that we associated with autism.

Our Disability Learning
In class we have been doing a project on disabilities. We had to work in groups and choose a visible disability to research and present to project the class about. We researched tourette syndrome (T.D).
I think I worked well on the disability research. I did my share of work on the topic and maybe a little more but I do think it could have been better quality and covered more information on T.D. If I could do it again I would spend more time on it and having a better quality presentation. I think I did horrible when I came to presenting it though because I hate doing anything in front of anyone and I mess up what i’m trying to say and leave things out so that's something I need to work on.
Our Learning Of Tupaia and Captain Cook
Recently, in our class we have been learning about Tupaia and his journey with Captain Cook to discover New Zealand. We watch a few short videos and a documentary about how Captain Cook and his journey and relationship with Tupaia and how they discovered New Zealand. We learnt about who Tupaia was and he history.
Tupaia was a young man from Tahiti. He was a warrior, a navigator, a high priest and was one of the men who joined Captain Cook on the Endevour. We learnt about how Tupaia wanted to take a route to New Zealand by going west and visiting islands to restock fresh food and rest and then drop down south using the current, but Captain Cook had been given a secret route that they ended up going and some people on board suffered from scurvy.
We also learnt about how they arrived in New Zealand after 55 days at sea. When Captain Cooks crew arrived there was already people there. 2 members of Captain Cooks crew where made warning shots with a gun but the Maori people did not have the technology like guns and where unsure what they were and kept coming. This resulted in Captain Cooks crew shooting the cheif of the Maori.

Climate Change In New Zealand
Recently in integrated studies I have been learning about the causes and effects of climate change. I have learnt about the main causes of global warming and climate change, greenhouse gases, and how we can help prevent climate change.
I made this poster to raise awareness about how we can help prevent climate change.
I learnt about deforestation and what effects it has on our climate, how cars and aircraft are effecting global warming, how factories effect global warming and about the excelling rising rate of global sea levels. I also looked at the climate strikes in New Zealand and why people were taking part in them and their aim and what they want out of it.

Captain Cook Causes and Effects
My Captain Cook Causes and Effects Animation
In class recently we have been learning about Captain Cook and his exploration of New Zealand. We have been looking into Captain Cook's first encounters with Maori and how how some of his actions on the beach at Poverty Bay in 1769 still causes conflict today. We learnt about his first experiences with Maori and his misunderstanding of their greetings and culture.

Tin Poems
Our integrated studies class had applied to be apart of this poetry project called tin poems with 96,000 other students in New Zealand that are also writing poems and sending them to other schools. What we do is we choose an item from a box that every other school who is participating has. We had to write down 40 words about our item and then chose our favourite 20 of them then make them into a poem. The first word (the title) had to be a anagram of our item and the last word had to be the item that we had. When we are finished they all get sent to a school in Birkenhead Auckland.
For this card my item was a coin. It took me quite a while because it was really hard to come up with 40 words to describe a coin, but overall it was really fun because I learnt heaps of new words to describe things.
For this one my item was a plastic spider. It didn't take me very long because it only had to write 20 words because it was my second poem and I didn't have time to write all 40. I really liked how this one turned out, and I also learnt through making these 2 poems, that its amazing how you can make a poem that sounds good just by putting lots of words together if you construct it right.
